RSI Chess Club Update
RSI Chess Club Update
3.23.25: We have some difficult news to share with the RSI Chess Club Community-unfortunately, we have not been successful in finding a Chess Club Administrator. Therefore, we need to make the difficult decision to not run a Chess Club program this school year. We hope to staff and run a Chess Club for the 25-26 school year-we apologize for the inconvenience and the disappointment this decision may cause.
3.16.25: In last week's newsletter, we shared that we were searching for a Chess Club Administrator, someone to coordinate the program. We have not had anyone express interest in serving in that role. Our PTO is actively recruiting someone to fill that position. If it is not filled by this Friday, 3/21, we will not have Chess Club this year. If you are interested in the position, please contact Sr. Habel at ken_habel@rdale.org
3.9.25 We are excited to announce that we would like to have a six-week RSI Chess Club session starting on Thursday, April 10th. In order to begin our Chess Club, however, we need one or two “Chess Club Administrators” to manage logistics such as attendance and parent check in. You do not need to have any knowledge of chess; we have Chess Club coaches. Mike Earleywine, previous Chess Club director, will train the Chess Club Administrator. The Chess Club administrator and the coaches receive small stipends.
Things to know about Chess Club:
- The program would run for 6 consecutive Thursdays, beginning April 10th.
- Students would report to the Media Center at 3:40. Students would need to be picked up at 5:15.
- The cost for the 6-session program would be $50. This includes a one-year gold membership for www.chesskid.com
- A snack will be provided to each student.
- Registration will be through Community Education - a link will be sent out later, once we have confirmed two Chess Club Administrators.
- Registration would be open to the first 100 students, regardless of grade.
- We will also need robust volunteer support - this program will not be able to continue without it.
If you are interested in being the Chess Club Administrator or working together with someone to co-lead for this spring, please reach out to Ken at ken_habel@rdale.org.
We would like to continue Chess Club again next year on Friday nights and run a 20-week program as we have done in the past. We selected Thursday nights this year as there are several Friday nights that are unavailable (Fiesta Fun Fair, teacher professional development day, etc.)
