RAS Support to our District Immigrant Communities

RAS Support to our District Immigrant Communities

The following letter was sent to all RAS Families on December 4, 2025

Dear Robbinsdale Area Schools staff and families,

We are aware of recent reports of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in Minnesota that is causing fear and uncertainty for some in our community, especially among our Somali families and other immigrant families.

We want to reaffirm our commitment to each and every student, parent/guardian and staff member: You are valued. You are welcome here. Your children belong in our schools.

We understand that these current actions may create anxiety and lead families to question the safety of everyday routines. While we cannot control or guarantee what happens outside of our buildings — in homes and neighborhoods — we can assure you of this: Inside our schools, safety, dignity, and support are foundational. We have strong procedures in place for responding to inquiries or actions from government agencies, and our primary responsibility is always the well-being of students in our care.

Support and Resources

Support is available to families who may be experiencing uncertainty during this time. If you or your child have concerns or need guidance, please reach out to someone you trust in your child’s school. This may include psychologists, social workers, school counselors, family and community engagement specialists, climate and culture specialists, administrators, or other staff who know your student and are here to help.

Families can also visit our webpage, All Are Welcome: Immigration Resources. There, members of our community can find more information, including our Resource Guide for Immigrant Families (SpanishSomali). This comprehensive guide provides essential resources, including:

  • Links to our policies to help families understand their rights
  • Proactive steps for preparing for emergencies
  • Family and community resources to foster connection and support
  • Links to legal resources for accessing assistance and protection

We remain committed to uplifting every student and family in our district. Thank you for your trust and partnership as we work together to ensure a strong, safe, and welcoming community for all.

Be well,

Dr. Teri Staloch

Superintendent
