Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion School (RSIS) hosted the 2015 Minnesota Advocates for Immersion Network (MAIN) Annual Event on October 15 at RSIS. The MAIN Event is an opportunity for educators from around the state to learn best practices about immersion education. Dr. Mandy Menke, Assistant Professor of Hispanic Linguistics at the University of Minnesota and Director of the Language Programs for the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies, was the keynote speaker. Her topic was Realizing the Dream of an Integrated Content and Language Assessment. Follow this link MAIN’s Facebook page to see photos of the conference.
We were honored to host our colleagues from around the state of Minnesota at this conference. Immersion education provides many unique benefits to the academic and cultural development of students. MAIN allows us to learn from the best educators and experts in this field so we can maximize student achievement through engaging and fun language experiences.
MAIN is a non-profit membership organization of Minnesota immersion educators and programs that was established to pool resources and create opportunities for professional development that specifically address the needs of immersion practitioners and support discussion and collaborative problem-solving of issues and challenges that are unique to immersion programming.
RSIS is proud to have been in existence for over 28 years in Robbinsdale Area Schools and has been privileged to teach thousands of students over the years. According to the Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition(CARLA), language immersion education delivers benefits such as academic achievement, language and literacy development in two or more languages, and enhanced cognitive skills.
